The big question is can the LCD TV’s perform better than the plasma when it comes to the large screens. Until now the answer has been a definite NO – but things have changed.

The new Sony Bravia has arrived and now competes with the plasma TV’s.

The new Sony Bravia now offers unrivalled image quality and accompanies it with outstanding design quality. It also has very high specifications that makes it future-proof with uncompromised connectivity, sophisticated picture processing and full high-definition support including the latest 1080p formats. We haven’t seen a better picture for the price than the new Sony Bravia.

People have always been admirers of Sony’s fantastic designs. It would appear that there is nothing particularly striking about the matte-grey frame and the slim speaker system, but attention to detail and ergonomic finishing means the new series oozes quality.

The compact design is comparatively lightweight, lending itself to wall-mounting options, otherwise there is a fixed stand option, but one thing missing is a swivelling model which would allow more flexibility with placement of the TV. The connectivity provided is excellent, they come with both analogue and digital options. HDMI digital video inputs allow the connection of external high definition sources. You can also connect your PC which is ideal for work or play. You can therefore connect up to high definition sources including the like of DVD players, Blue-ray, games consoles and even Sky’s High Definition TV receiver.

Scart sockets are provided for conventional connectivity – both being RGB to ensure top quality results. This means that you can use the HDMI for playback of video devices while the scart connections can be used for recording functionality.

Other features that are often overlooked are the AV inputs, but they are best used for short-term connections such as camcorder or games console, as the quality can be relatively poor. You can also use the screen as a large monitor when connected to a PC or media centre and you can also take advantage of the audio input from the PC.
